2013-04-01 SRS workshop for VET instructors in Romania

On April 3rd, HiST will be organizing  a workshop for VET teachers and instructors in Romania, together with Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mures County. The workshop is going to use Activity Based Training methods, to train the teachers and instructors in using the online Student Response System (SRS) in vocational education and training (VET). One of the goals is to demonstrate how student activating learning and training methods may be used in VET courses in Romania.

2013-03-25 HiST lead International Workshop in Belgrade

HiST organized together with Insitute Gosa, an international workshop in Belgrade in the beginning of March. The workshop gathered Vocational Education and Training personnel from industry, academia and institutions in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia and Norway. The workshop was financed by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade. 40 persons attended.

2013-03-21 Osnovna Skola Drinka Pavlovic

Drinka Pavlovic was a serbian partisan during WWII, who was killed in 1943. Today, Osnovna Skola Drinka Pavlovic, is a large, modern primary and secondary school in the central part of Belgrade. The school uses modern equipment in their teaching practices, including digital blackboards.

2013-01-03 When age doesn't count. VET and mobile technology in Hungary

MHtE, the Hungarian Association of Welding Technology and Material Testing, has been cooperating with HiST in European pilot projects for the last 5-6 years. MHtE has more than 100 member organizations from all over Hungary, and every year they certify several thousand students and mechanical industry workers. MHtE has managed to implement and start using the brand new methods, tools and services developed in these EU-projects.

MHtE has accumulated a lot of expertise and experience within their organization. The youngest MHtE employee is 62 years of age, but he feels like a 30-year old youngster. Over the last few years they pioneered the use of new technology in several educational sectors. Could they inspire universities and other vocational education and training (VET) schools?

2012-12-23 HiST Christmas Greetings from Trondheim

Anna Avramenko, a postgraduate student from Lomunosov Moscow State University, visited us for two weeks at the end of the exiting year 2012. She carried out research related to mobile learning in several classes at HiST, and represents one our new international partners within R&D.

2012-12-19 135 questions on a mobile device, Budapest

On Monday December 17th 2012, the Hungarian Association for Welding and Material Testing in Budapest (MHtE) used the Peer Learning Assessment System (PELE) for an exam in material testing. Three groups worked with 135 questions at the same time, using a small handheld device like an iPod to submit the results.

2012-12-14 Responding to 1-2-3

Students will from summer 2013 be able to do exams using their mobile phones. Universites dont need to make expensive investments in order to reconstruct their infrastructure and prepare for PC exams, as they instead may use the existing Wi-Fi network in exisiting rooms. Therefore it is important to start thinking in new ways.

2012-12-07 Toys, tools or just disruptive education?

Today, mobile devices are disrupting the way we work and interact, though nobody had heard about smartphones before the iPhone arrived during the summer 2007 - just 5 years ago. Tomorrow mobile technology and handheld devices like smartphones, laptops and the new tablets, are going to disrupt education and training.

Is Olivier (picture above) using a laptop, is he using a tablet with a keyboard as he may remove the screen and use it as a tablet, or is he using a toy? Handheld devices, are they tools or just toys that disrupt traditional educational courses?

2012-12-04 Snapshots from Online Educa Berlin 2012

The HiST team attended Online Educa Berlin (OEB) from 28-30.11. The online Student Response System (SRS) and the Peer Learning Assessment System attracted a lot of people, keeping the people at the stand busy during the whole conference. In addition, SRS was used to gather feedback from the audience at two workshops and two sessions of the conference. PELE was presented at the Friday afternoon instant feedback session.

2012-11-10 SRS 2 - a product which works better than advertised!

Nearly 100 teachers and instructors from all over Norway are currently using the Student Response System (SRS 2) developed by HiST, and new users start testing and using it every week. The teachers and instructors work at vocational and education training institutions, high schools and universities.  

Recently, staff at one of the universities described SRS in the following way:

"SRS - a product which works better than advertised".

Article from 26.10.2012 describing how the vocational education and training provider Centrum for Fexible Learning (CFL), is applying the Peer Learning Assessment System prototype in classes in Söderhamn and Bollnäs, Sweden. It is written in Swedish.
