2011-11-03 Strengthening the Cooperation with the Balkan Region

A delegation from HiST has recently visited Belgrade in order to meet key people, and discuss and prepare for new R&D activities. During the visit results and products from several EU co-funded projects were demonstrated, e.g. Activity Based Training methods, simulator solutions and mobile learning technologies like SRS. Application of services to various institutions in Serbia and Montenegro were outlined.

2011-11-01 iQSim welding simulator ready for use in Serbia

The simulator performs real-time online calculations of welding processes. A range of welding schools, Vocational Education and Training schools, and companies in the mechanical industry sector in Europe, are using the online welding simulator that was developed in the Leonardo da Vinci Development of Innovation Pilot Project iQSim during the period 2008-2010. As part of the exploitation process, and in order to provide more videspread and enhanced use, has HiST translated the simulator into Serbian, whereby it is available in 7 European languages. This includes Norwegian, Swedish, Lithuanian, English, Greec and Hunagarian.

2011-10-29 Demo of Online Evaluaton System for Smartphones at Online Educa 2012, Berlin

Educational research shows that students learning is enhanced when they get (regularly) feedback to their own understanding of the subject. Many students consider lack of feedback as unproductive! Furthermore, educational research shows that tests and exams have litle effect or influence of students learning process. It is indeed a paradox that our educational system on the one hand is interested in students learning, while the educational system at the same time frequently uses the less effective feedbackmechanism which a test is.

2011-10-27 Matchstick missile contest winners announced

Professor Liviu Moldovan handed out the award in the matchstick missile contest in a ceremony at HiST. This concluded a project collaboration between HiST and the Petru Maior University in Tirgu Mures, Romania, in which mechanical engineering students at HiST were commissioned by Professor Moldovan to design a rocket from matchsticks and aluminium foil.

2011-10-26 Experiences from the Mobile Learning Seminar in Østersund, Sweden

At October 24-25, 22 experienced teachers from Norway and Sweden met in Østersund in order to exchange experiences with usage of  online response system technologies like in the LLP-Transfer of Innovation project Done-IT. The first part of the seminar demonstrated how Student Response Systems (SRS) have been used in a range of ways in higher education, as well as in vocational education in Norway and Sweden during the last 2 years. The second part of the seminar discussed the design of a SRS II. The picture shows John Erik Hennissen summing up his expeirences with use of SRS.

2011-10-19 Experiences from the International VET Workshop in Bratislava, Slovakia

More than 40 persons from Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Norway and Portugal attended the international workshop "Moodern Tools for Education and their Implementation into Education of Welding Personnel", in Bratislava from 18 to 19 of October. During the workshop several virtual welding systems were demonstrated, as well as new training methods in vocational education and training. The European Welding Federation become in particular interested in the student response services and the iQSim simulator that have been developed by HIST and an international partnership in two LLP pilot projects.

2011-10-12 HiST-stand at Online Educa, Berlin

Sør-Trøndelag University College (HiST), Trondheim, Norway, is demonstrating products, results and methods from a number of ongoing EU funded pilot projects at the HiST stand at Online Educa. This is the 17th International Conference on Technology Supported Learning and Training, and one of the largest global e-learning conferences for the cooperate, education and public service sectors.

2011-10-09 Demo of Mobile Learning Solutions at International VET Workshop, Bratislava, Slovakia

Dr. John B. Stav, Ketil Arnesen and Bogdan Voaidas are  going to give a presentation and demo addressing "Experiences from use of new ICT and mobile learning in Vocational Education and Training (VET)" at the Biznisuite Technopol in Bratislava, October 18-19, 2011. The presentation will be part of the international workshop "Moodern Tools for Education and their Implementation into Education of Welding Personnel", which is organized by VuZ in Slovakia.

2011-10-09 Demo of new Creative Learning Tools at Online Educa, Berlin

Dr. Trond M. Thorseth is at December 1st going to lead the demo of the new test and evaluation system that is developed in the KA3-ICT Done-IT project. The title of the presentation is "Smartphones Turn Immediate Feedback on Tests and Exams into a New Creative Learning Tool". The demonstration highlights how the delivery of instant test and exam results via smartphones can improve student motivation and performance. This is achieved using an innovative evaluation process where learning outcomes are measured on the move and used to improve skills and results by giving participants a second chance.

2011-10-01 Online SRS from HiST is applied by university in Greece

The first course in Greece that is going to use the Student Response System from HiST, is just about to start. The first test users are going to be students in an ICT class. Our Student Response System (SRS), which was developed in the KA3-ICT EduMecca project, is currently used in the 11 countries Norway, Sweden, UK, Netherland, Hungary, Greece, Slovakia, Denmark, Slovenia, Belgium and Romania.

2011-09-27 What happends when engineers start collaborating with language trainers?

Last week did the language teachers at Faculty of Technology start an inovative experiment in language training. They have indeed asked Prof. Liviu Moldovan from University Petru Major, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Tirgu Mures, Romania, to use his expertice from engineering, to improve students learning of Norwegian and English!

Prof. Moldovan wants to promote and enhance exchange of students from Romania to Norway by using the Erasmus program. Unfortunately, his students arent very entusiastic. Is it anything that is interesting in Norway?

2011-09-22 Scandinavian Mobile Learning Seminar in Østersund, Sweden

Teachers working at HiST in Trondheim, and at CFL in Soderhamn, Sweden, have been using the online Student Response System (SRS) for a period now in a range of courses and training diciplines. The experiences and feedback obtained from the students are very good. At October 24-25, experienced SRS teachers meet in order to exchange experiences, discuss methods, design next generation mobile learning services, and test out the new evaluation services for Smartphones that are currently developed in the Done-IT project.
