SRS workshop for Swedish instructors, Søderhamn

On 25 April, Knut Bjørkli and Tord Tallmo gave a practical instructor training course addressing how to use the online Student Response System (SRS) to teachers from Bolnes and Søderhamn in Sweden. They wanted to explore the potential use of response technology in a variety of courses at high school level, as well as in vocational education and training. Workshops like this one are an important means with regards to the introduction of SRS in education and training.

The course introduced the SRS and gave a technical review of it, with particular emphasis on the "SRS methodology" through best practices, including the design and development of exercises. Practical training sessions where the teachers were given the opportunity to explore the SRS were a central part of the course. An open roundtable discussion was held at the end of the course.

The teachers gave a lot of positive feedback after the course, and therefore, HiST and Centrum for Flexible Learning (CFL) have decided to support and enhance the exploitation of response technology by arranging the Second Scandinavian Mobile Learning Workshop in Østersund during the period September 24-26, 2012. During the workshop, teachers and instructors from Norway and Sweden will get together in order to exchange experiences and elaborate on new pedagogical methods that utilize assessment for learning by the use of online response technologies.

The first workshop was arranged in 2011, and 25 teachers met for one day. This year, the number of participating teachers will increase, and the program will be extended with one day. Teachers from Hungary, Slovenia and Romania will also visit the workshop.

SRS 2.0, PELE 1.5, Eval 1.0 and iLike 1.0 are available for use.
