Demo at Welding Seminar, Trondheim, 11.5.2012

John B. Stav, Robin Støckert and Knut Bjørkli provided a demo of new activity based training methods at the one day welding seminar: "Trøndsk Sveisedag", May 11, 2012. The demo included usage of the welding simulator from the iQSim Leonardo da Vinci pilot project, in combination with the response system developed in the EduMecca KA3-ICT project.  Both projects were completed at the end of the year 2010.

The online iQSim welding simulator is currently in use in vocational education and training in several European countries such as Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Hungary and Serbia. The activity based training methods are currently being tested and validated by vocational institutions in Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia as part of the EuroPlast project.

33 participants from various educational institutions and mechanical industry companies in Mid-Norway attended the seminar. The last part of the session highlighted the potential that lies in using mobile technology and online response technology to increase the level of interaction and communication in class, including student response systems (SRS) and peer learning assessment systems (PeLe) in certification processes in vocational education. At the end of the seminar, a hands-on session were organized where all participants voted by using mobile devices.

Karl Arne Berg from Vitec AS reports his experiences from use of the welding simulator and the response system. He demonstrates the iQSim simulator in combination with the online SRS system.

SRS 2.0, PELE 1.5, Eval 1.0 and iLike 1.0 are available for use.
