International Industry-Academia Training Partnership, Verdal, Norway


Vitec is an SME company located in Verdal, Norway that has more than 60 employees. Together with HiST, they have implemented and deployed use of Activity Based Training (ABT) in combination with response systems, in education of plastic welders in Mid-Norway. Students from Levanger high school have been testing the ABT method applied to welding of plastic materials that has been developed in the EuroPlast project

Vitec provides dimension control, services in welding techniques, inspection and non-destructive testing, and education and training in welding. They have been cooperating with Accredited National Bodies in Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia during the EuroPlast project, and developed a new framework for education of plastic welders. ABT method applied to welding of plastic materials
The new plastic welding course is structured in 8 modules. Three modules contain practical work in the workshop or in the laboratory, and are designed to immediately apply the theory from the 5 other modules. The training activities are designed to follow the production cycle of a predefined structure (a product) or a working process. The course has exploited a blended learning approach utilizing various delivery technologies for distribution of learning material. Enhancing student motivation through increased interaction and collaboration is one of the key points of the ABT methodology. Students work in an industrial production environment, supervised by experienced personnel, and are subjected to the requirements for obtaining high quality in the industrial production process within tight deadlines. The team-building component is important in order to obtain high quality throughout the production process, and this aspect is highlighted during the educational process. Today's industrial production environments are multicultural, where the students will be working together with people of various nationalities, cultural  and educational backgrounds, and different levels of practical experience.

Further international collaboration
Vitec has acquired many new international contacts during two years of project work. The company will together with HiST seek to initiate new pilot projects for development and implementation of state-of-the-art handheld technologies in industrial application areas.
