DEEL overview

The Developing Excellence in Education and Learning (DEEL) Research Unit is located at the Faculty of Technology, Sør-Trøndelag University College in Trondheim, Norway. The Unit focuses its research and development on issues of learning dealing with the use of technology enhanced learning and training methods, in combinations with developments of new state of the art ICT services.

The DEEL Research Unit:
  • Conducts research and development on learning and educational technology
  • Develop brand new services utilizing mobile handheld unites like for instance Smartphones
  • Develops pedagogical methods and technology enhanced training courses firmly grounded in learning sciences
  • Develops and promotes mobile learning methods
  • Supports multidisciplinary collaboration in educational research and development of new ICT services that enhances use of mobile learning
  • Has access to a huge network of public and private organizations at national and European level
The Unit includes an interdisciplinary team consisting of researchers, teachers that have more than 15 years of experience, engineers with key competences in developing advanced ICT, video and mobile technology solutions, as well as staff with key expertise in social sciences.

The Unit has access to 25 Smartboards, state of the art video streaming and videoconferencing solutions, a modern video technology laboratory, modern ICT and mobile technology services, close to 400 iPods, an experimental lab with a prototype of tomorrow’s classroom, and a huge number of students in classes where new service and training methods may be tested in real experiments.
